Weekend In The Lowcountry

A Weekend In The Lowcountry

This past weekend we were able to spend time with some of my husbands family at the coast, his dad lives in Pawley's Island, SC, so we are fortunate to be able to call the Lowcountry our second home. I love the mountains, but the coast of South Carolina has a big part of my heart. Since we spend so much time there I decided to put together a weekend itinerary.

Friday

Check in at Litchfield By The Sea - Even before my husbands dad moved to PI we were weekending at Litchfield. It has a very inclusive resort feel, with multiple restaurants and pools, plus an onsite Starbucks! We have stayed at Summerhouse and Lakeside. Most units are individually owned so they have homey touches. The resort is very family friendly and the staff is A+.

Beach snacks - Before heading to the beach head over to Get Carried Away- Southern Take Out and Catering. They carry the famous "Palmetto Cheese" +  a variety of other goodies like sausage dip,  artichoke dip and the best pound cake ever.

Heading to the Beach - Litchfield has a private beach that is beautiful and you can even rent chairs and umbrellas, just make sure you do so early because they sell out fast. If you are looking for a change of scenery from the resort I would head to to the far south end of Pawleys. This is the tip of the island and it juts out into a peninsula. Plenty of beach space and surrounded by water, but go early because parking is extremely limited.

Dinner plans - After an afternoon of laying in the sun I would head over to Pawleys Raw Bar for some delicious seafood, casual style. Their selection of adult beverages isn't half bad either.

Saturday

Breakfast at Eggs Up Grill - I realize this is a chain, but I kinda freak out if I don't get to eat here at least once on our visits. We have never been disappointed by the food or the staff. Best French toast, hands down!

Shopping  - Pawleys Island is famous for its handmade hammocks, so naturally you need to visit the Hammock Shops. This little shopping center is so cute and has some fantastic boutiques. From the hammock shop itself to specialty olive oils to local art, they have something for everyone.

Afternoon adventure - One of my favorite activities is kayaking in the marsh. Pawleys Kayaks is who we have used in the past. Pick a time and they will drop off kayaks, paddles and life jackets at your desired boat ramp. When you are done, just give them a call and they will pick them back up. Make sure you plan around the tides though. You definitely do not want to be paddling against the current if the tides are going out.

Dinner - For dinner I highly suggest Chive Blossom Cafe. This is a very small restaurant, but its so cozy and beautiful. They serve a variety of dishes from seafood to pasta and even a couple of Asian inspired dishes. My favorites dish is the crab cakes, paired with the Cipriani Bellini, you will not be disappointed.

Dessert - After Chive head south on 17 to Gilbert's Ice cream. This is a family owned business and they make every single flavor in house. There is something for everyone here from banana splits to classic vanilla.

Sunday

Brunch - Before heading home stop for brunch at  Rustic Table. I tend to go for a lowcountry classic like shrimp + grits. If you are looking for something lighter the fried green tomatoes are a delish!

Sunday is always such a bittersweet day on vacation. You don't want to leave the beach, but on the other hand you're excited to be home. I feel like September is the Sunday of summer. It's so sad to see the warmth and lazy hazy days go, but also ready for the cool breeze of October.  I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I cant wait to see what this next season brings.

xoxo,

Shelby C.
